The Miss Nigeria International Pageant is a celebration of the beauty and culture of Nigeria. You can always expect the winners of this beauty pageant to embody these characteristics. The current Miss Nigeria International is even more special. Read on to know about a Beauty Queen and more – a look at Aisosa Osaretin.
Becoming Miss Nigeria International
The 2019 edition of Miss Nigeria International took place at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in the United States of America. Naturally, the beautiful, confident and eloquent Aisosa Osaretin emerged as the crowned queen.
Miss Nigeria international has a mission that focuses on the empowerment of Nigerian female folks. Likewise, it aims to promote the Nigerian cultural heritage. As such, the pageant promotes literacy and enhances women’s development. Furthermore, it does all of this while trying to improve corporate social responsibility.
In other words, the pageant portrays the belief that women can use their potential to provide help using the medium of education, vocational skills, creativity, and more.
Aisosa Osaretin’s Human Rights Advocacy
Incidentally, these laudable objectives are in line with what Osaretin is passionate about. As she described it, her forum places emphasis on human rights advocacy. Specifically, it focuses on addressing the use of women as pawns in conflicts.
Now, she does not pay mere lip service to these objectives. She dedicates consistent hours to furthering human rights by making appearances and attending conventions. Moreover, she collaborates with media houses and organizations – both Nigerian and African – to further these endeavors. For example, she has been featured in interview sessions on the Minnesota Television Network’s Crystal and Freddy Show.
Early Passion for Justice
Right after her graduation from the University of Benin, Nigeria, She was posted from South Nigeria to Eastern Nigeria for her compulsory service in the Nigeria National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
However, Osaretin’s interest and passion for Justice and Human Rights did not bloom suddenly. Although she graduated with a degree in philosophy from the University of Benin, she had always determined to go to Law School.
This commitment reflects in her job roles during her NYSC. According to her, her choice of forum was highly influenced by her experiences in Nigeria. She kept updating herself on the human rights violation issues in war-torn countries such as Syria, Cameroon, and South Sudan.
Again, this discipline and commitment are evidenced in Osaretin’s concurrent Law degree and Master’s in Public Service degree. Meanwhile, she is a member of the Minnesota and Arkansas Bar Association.
Active Work Experience
To top that off, she’s no slouch either. She has garnered good experience while working in several roles.
Aisosa Osaretin has proved herself as being industrious and capable. While there, she was active in the following:
- The Legal Aid Corps; She represented people unable to afford legal representations. She also executed various human rights campaigns.
- Local Government Council; There, she worked in the litigation office.
Later on, she added more work experience as a law clerk in a Law Firm, a County Prosecuting Office, and a Communications Firm, and several other firms. More so, she worked with Clark Tucker’s campaign as a volunteer. In addition, she works as a Children’s Special Advocate in a Court Appointed position.
Promoting Nigerian Culture
Promoting Nigerian culture is a core function of being Miss Nigeria International. Osaretin has not forgotten her roots as a native of Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.
Right from time, she has considered being exposed to various cultures including dress, language, and music as refreshing.
