After months of campaign, Joe Biden has been announced as the winner of the US presidential election.

In a sharp twist of events, Biden won Pennsylvania, which got him the much needed 270 Electoral College votes for the US presidency.

In a victory speech made by Biden in Wilmington, Delaware, he reached out to President Donald Trump’s supporters, saying “Let’s give each other a chance and stop treating each other like enemies. We are not enemies. We are Americans. This is the time to heal,” he said.

There are also reports that Joe Biden will reverse most of Trump’s foreign policies, while also re-negotiating with different governmental institutions across the world.

Celebrations have erupted in several cities in the US as news of Biden’s victory, most especially in battleground key states, was announced.

Currently, Joe Biden has garnered 290 Electoral College votes while Trump has only been able to pull 214 Electoral College votes as reported by the Associated Press (AP).

The Presidency race, as reported by the Guardian, is usually decided in a small number of key battleground states that switch party allegiance between elections.

Biden was able to flip states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

In a reaction to media outlets calling the race for Mr Biden, the incumbent president, Trump said: “We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed.” “The simple fact is this election is far from over.”

This further fueled reports that Trump would challenge the results of the election in court.
