August 23, 2021by Ovacom Media0

Afghanistan and Taliban conflict is no longer a news to the world at large. On August 6, 2021, the Taliban captured the capital of Southern Nimruz Province. It was the first capital that they captured. After that, they took over other provincial capitals leaving only Kabul, the capital city under the government control. On August 15, 2021, the Taliban entered into the capital city of Kabul and captured it. This led to the collapse of the government and the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani to flee for his life. Later that day, the Taliban took over the government house and established checkpoints to maintain security in the capital.

In response to the Afghanistan and Taliban conflict, President Joe Biden in a televised address from the white house declared that the US troops would be withdrawn by September, 2021. He still stands and maintains his grounds. Sequel to the power takeover of the Taliban, a lot has happened and changed in Afghanistan. The Taliban has declared amnesty in the country. They also advised women to join hands with the full Islamic leadership so that they would not be victims. They have also declared that until all foreign structure is out of the country, a new structure of government won’t be created. The political chief of the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, as well congratulated the Taliban. This is for a successful overthrow of the US occupation in Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan-Taliban Conflict

An obvious violation of human rights has occurred in Afghanistan. This is because the Taliban has taken over and has caused injuries or death to many civilians in the country. US on the other hand has spent a lot of money in fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. They have spent so much on the needs of the troops such as feeding and clothing. Likewise, they spent on medical care, special pay and benefits as well. They have also spent on counter insurgency operations and everything has generally caused the US a lot. In fact, the US sent some funds but the government lost them to fraud, waste and abuse over the years. More importantly, the government has recorded lot of deaths. There have been more than 3500 coalition death since 2001, when the war began.

Women now face an uncertain future in Afghanistan. The Taliban has declared that they would respect the rights of women and minorities. Although the militants said they want women to join the government, there are some fears. These fears are on the freedom of women to work and dress as they choose. They also fear their women to as well leave their homes under the Taliban rule.

Conclusion

According to the Taliban, their only aim is to implement an Islamic government in Afghanistan. They will not pose any threat to any other country. With nervous citizens after witnessing all sorts of atrocities, human rights abuses and war crimes, the Taliban tries to bring a ray of hope for its citizens. We can only hope for peace to reign in Afghanistan eventually. For more information about the Afghanistan and Taliban conflict, contact us at Ovacom Consulting.
